We had so much fun at the Willie Nelson and Family shows last weekend. What a blast, really. Everyone had so much fun. Seeing that band at Floores was like being in somebody’s big back yard with the band playing on the porch.
The stage is so low at Floores, Willie spent all night pointing and waving and throwing kisses, tossing bandanas and hats. I don’t know how he does it, but he makes everyone of us feel like he recognizes us and he probably does know lots of those folks from who come to see him at Floores.
I don’t know how he played his guitar, for all the waving he was doing.

And there were so many long guitar solos. There were goose-bump, Grateful Dead moments, like Willie has done in the past — he takes off and you don’t know how he’s going to get back, but he always lands with us safely. It was moving, such beautiful music. He is an amazing guitar player.
He rules that place.
The whole band worked so hard. Sister Bobbie, on piano, and Mickey Raphael on harmonicas, both took lots of solos, too. Paul English played a long time, and shared percussion work with his brother Billy English. Kevin Smith, on stand up bass and electric bass, and Bobbie, impossible for me to photograph from where I sat, though.

Some of his family joined him on stage for the gospel set to close out his show.
