PEORIA — Leave it to Willie to perform a concert on 4/20 in Peoria.
The legendary country-music performer, songwriter, actor and activist is scheduled for a show April 20 at the Peoria Civic Center Theater. Tickets are to go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at ticketmaster.com and the Civic Center box office. Prices begin at $59.50.
Nelson is to play in Peoria nine days before his 89th birthday. April 20 also is an unofficial counterculture holiday, focused on use and celebration of cannabis. Nelson is known as a staunch advocate of marijuana.

His musical career, which began in the mid-1950s, didn’t hit full stride until the mid-1970s. That’s when Nelson became identified with the “outlaw country” brand, thanks in part to his acclaimed album “Red Headed Stranger.”
