Oh, it was so fun getting to see Willie Nelson and Family at Carl’s corner last week. Those shows are such a treat; the venue is so cozy.  Willie makes us all feel so welcome and so happy we came.  It’s like he knows everyone in the audience.  

The theater has changed; the giant picture behind the stage is gone, and some other art work is missing.  There’s no ‘Willie’s Place” neon light up on the ceiling.   I’m hoping they are just being stored somewhere for safekeeping.   But no matter what changes the place is going through, it doesn’t really matter when Willie takes the stage.  What a great show.  Thank you, Willie Nelson and Family for another wonderful evening.

I drove down to Carl’s Corner from Lawton, Oklahoma with Willie Nelson fan and friend Rick, from Lawton.  I was there to attend my nephew’s graduation from basic combat training at Fort Sill, and when I heard about the show, and Rick said he would ride with me, it was perfect.  We met up with a whole bunch of other fans gathered to see Willie perform.

The Abbott Highschool class of ’50 was celebrating it’s reunion at Carl’s Corner, and Willie and Bobbie Nelson came early to the venue to hang out with classmates.

Bill Mack, from Willie’s Place, on Sirius/XM Radio acted as mc.  Dallas Wayne, another Sirius/XM radio dj opened up the show with his band.  The guy can sing.   He put on a great show.   He has an album out, too, and you can purchase it through is website at www.DallasWayne.com. Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real performed before Willie Nelson & Family.

Rick and I left Carl’s about midnight and got back to Lawton about 4:00 a.m.  Thanks to Janis for getting our tickets for us, and thanks to Rick for his company and his friendship on the ride down.

David Allan Coe drove hundreds of miles to take the stage and sing with Willie for his gospel set at the end of the show.

Willie made us all happy by signing autographs after the show. When fans attempted to access the stage by walking on the tables, a local Sheriff jumped up on the stage to deter them. Willie didn’t even blink, just kept on signing autographs. That’s when you miss Poodie, he would have nipped that in the bud. Poodie could move so fast when he saw someone climbing on the stage to get to Willie.
